National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence against Women

Presented by the Sexual and Gender-Based Violence Coordinator in Student Services and Accessibility, Belonging and Community Office and hosted by the ULethbridge Library, this workshop honours Canada’s National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women. December 6 commemorates the 14 women murdered in the 1989 École Polytechnique massacre.

This Awareness to Action: Gender-Based Violence in the Digital Age workshop is part of the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence, a global campaign that calls for collective action to end gender-based violence in all its forms. This year’s theme on digital violence highlights the growing threats faced by women, girls, and gender-diverse people online.

The campus community is invited join us to explore how technology both amplifies harm and offers new tools for safety, advocacy and solidarity. The session will be hosted by Leah Webster in the University of Lethbridge Women's Peace Memorial Garden where we will reflect on the ongoing impact of gendered violence and our ongoing institutional commitment to creating safer spaces for all.

Leah Webster is the Sexual and Gender-based Violence Prevention Coordinator at the University of Lethbridge in Student Affairs. With a decade of experience working in violence prevention in various capacities, Leah has provided compassionate support to individuals impacted by violence and is deeply committed to fostering safer, more inclusive communities. Her work centres on prevention and education strategies, empowering others with the knowledge and tools to recognize, respond to and prevent sexual and gender-based violence.

Coffee, hot chocolate and cookies will be served.
The campus community is invited to stay following the workshop for a plant pot painting activity until 2 p.m.
