First Nations Gathering Centre

The University's second major capital project priority, the First Nations Gathering Centre, aims to provide a holistic atmosphere for all FNMI peoples, and the Lethbridge community.

It will be a place where students can meet with Elders, share stories, teaching and wisdom.

The Centre will also:

  • Provide appropriate space for ceremonies, smudging, and celebrations.
  • Foster appreciation and respect for FNMI heritage throughout the University and Southern Alberta.
  • Promote cultural diversity and cultivate cross-cultural awareness and interaction.
  • Offer referrals for Aboriginal programs, research, and student support services across campus.

More details can be found in the Report to the President on the First Nations Metis Inuit (FNMI) Gathering Centre. [PDF]

The University is located on traditional Blackfoot Confederacy territory. We honour the Blackfoot people and their traditional ways of knowing in caring for this land, as well as all Aboriginal peoples who have helped shape and continue to strengthen our University community.
