About the Venue

Image
Surrounded by waving prairie grasses, the University of Lethbridge offers a stunning vista of the beautiful Old Man River valley, and beyond that, the City of Lethbridge itself. This is a place of flatness and depth, of severe beauty, of stark contrasts. The golden prairies seem to extend forever, until you find yourself standing before the majestic Rocky mountains at the Waterton – Glacier International Peace Park, or atop thecliffs of the Head-Smashed-In Buffalo Jump, a UNESCO world heritage site, or amidst the hoodoos in the sacred landscape of the Writing-on-Stone Provincial Park /

We invite you to join us here in the city of Lethbridge, Alberta, a place where controlling sexuality has an enduring history. Here, the legal eugenics regime began officially with the Alberta Sterilization Act of 1928 and ended only with its repeal in 1972. Please join us here to take up the pressing issues of controlling sexuality and reproduction, in the past and continuing today.

The University is located on traditional Blackfoot Confederacy territory. We honour the Blackfoot people and their traditional ways of knowing in caring for this land, as well as all Aboriginal peoples who have helped shape and continue to strengthen our University community.
