Art NOW — Leanne Elias

Elias, a new media professor, will discuss the new area of research called data physicalization. Data physicalization lies at the intersection of art, new media and data. It helps people explore, understand and communicate data using computer-supported physical data representations.

Bach’s Birthday Recital

Monday, March 21, 4:30 p.m., Stephure Hall, Casa, 230 8 St. S.

Tea, cake and music make for a cozy party to commemorate Johann Sebastian Bach’s birthday. Performers include the U of L Singers, Harp Septet and musicians from the Department and Conservatory of Music.

Opening Reception — The Opokaa’sin Digital Storytelling Project

Monday, March 21, 5 to 7 p.m., Opokaa’sin Early Intervention Society, 241 Stafford Drive North

The ‘Raising Spirit’ exhibit, the digital storytelling project that features photos of local Blackfoot families in everyday moments of child rearing, will be officially opened during this reception. The exhibit is the result of collaboration between Opokaa’sin Early Intervention Society and the U of L’s Institute for Child and Youth Studies and Museum Studies program.

Artist talk — Sean Devine

Monday, March 21, 7 p.m., W425, David Spinks Theatre

Devine, winner of the U of L’s Fiction at Fifty playwriting competition, will discuss his career as an Ottawa-based playwright and theatre maker who is artistic director of Horseshoes & Hand Grenades Theatre. His winning play, ‘When There’s Nothing Left to Burn’ will premier in November, 2017 as part of the U of L’s main stage season.

Library Brown Bag Session — The History and Architecture of University Hall

Tuesday, March 22, noon to 1:30 p.m., L950, Library

Mike Perry, the U of L’s archivist, will deliver a visual presentation of how University Hall was designed and the various stages of its history.

Music at Noon — Darren Copeland

Tuesday, March 22, 12:15 to 1 p.m., Recital Hall, W570

Copeland, of New Adventures in Sound Art (NAISA), will perform a concert of works for live octophonic spatialization using the NAISA Spatialization system. Octophonic sound is a type of audio reproduction that presents eight audio channels using eight speakers. The NAISA system is a 16-channel performance system.

Brain Awareness Week — Cognitive Robotics

Dr. Matthew Tata will talk about how advances in robotics have been inspired by discoveries about the human brain and how artificial intelligence and robotics could affect our lives in the future.

Dr. Duane Rockerbie is an economics professor with expertise in sports economics. He will discuss a commissioned project he completed looking at the feasibility of establishing a new Caribbean football league.
