Dramatic Arctic rescue story of Captain Robert Abram Bartlett the focus of PUBlic Professor Series talk

Captain Robert Abram Bartlett (1875-1946) attempted the Pole with Admiral Peary, worked to advance Canadian sovereignty in the Arctic, and, in 1914, was responsible for one of the most remarkable Arctic rescues of all time. His fame extended throughout North America to Europe where he won awards and dined with royalty.

Management Students’ Society jumping at opportunity to support United Way through Chillin’ For Charity

The Management Students’ Society (MSS), a host of local community leaders and charitable citizens will be dipping into icy waters on Monday, October 22 for the 14th edition of the Chillin’ For Charity fundraising event in support of the United Way of Lethbridge & South Western Alberta. More than $25,000 has been raised over the past four years that MSS has organized the event and more than $100,000 since its inception. A goal of $10,000 of support has been set for this year’s edition.

Award-winning documentary about Alberta’s African-American settlers comes to Lethbridge

Jenna Bailey and David Este are available to speak to media on Saturday, Oct. 20 at 2 p.m. at the Lethbridge Public Library, Lower Study non-fiction stacks area Audiences in Lethbridge and southern Alberta have the opportunity to learn about the discrimination experienced by black settlers in Alberta and Saskatchewan in the early 1900s when the documentary, We are the Roots: Black Settlers and Their Experiences of Discrimination on the Canadian Prairies, has its Lethbridge premiere on Sunday, Oct. 21.

University of Lethbridge faculty and student researchers supported by NSERC funding

A diverse and comprehensive group of University of Lethbridge researchers was awarded $1.98 million in funding from the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC) this week, part of $558 million in total funding to post-secondary researchers and students, the largest investment in research from NSERC this year. In addition, eight graduate students received $336,000 in funding, further broadening the impact of the federal government’s investment in research activities at the U of L.
