Captain Robert Abram Bartlett (1875-1946) attempted the Pole with Admiral Peary, worked to advance Canadian sovereignty in the Arctic, and, in 1914, was responsible for one of the most remarkable Arctic rescues of all time. The Management Students’ Society (MSS), a host of local community leaders and charitable citizens will be dipping into icy waters on Monday, October 22 for the 14th edition of the Chillin’ For Charity fundraising event in support of the United Way of Lethbridge & South Western Alberta. More than $25,000 has been raised over the past four years that MSS has organized the event and more than $100,000 since its inception. A goal of $10,000 of support has been set for this year’s edition.

A diverse and comprehensive group of University of Lethbridge researchers was awarded $1.98 million in funding from the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC) this week, part of $558 million in total funding to post-secondary researchers and students, the largest investment in research from NSERC this year. In addition, eight graduate students received $336,000 in funding, further broadening the impact of the federal government’s investment in research activities at the U of L.
