Courtney, Patzer players of the week

Andrew Courtney helped the University of Lethbridge Pronghorns men's hockey team to three of a possible four points this past weekend, earning him dual honours as Subway Pronghorn Male Athlete of the Week and Canada West Male Athlete of the Week.

Courtney, a fourth-year forward out of Belleville, Ont., scored four times in a home-and-home series with University of Calgary Dinos.

Thursday night, in the Pronghorns' home opener at Nicholas Sheran Arena, Courtney scored two power play goals, including the game-tying goal that forced overtime, in the Horns' 4-3 shootout win. He was also credited with a team high seven shots on goal.

On Saturday night, despite falling 6-5 in another shootout decision, Courtney picked up another two goals, including the tying goal for the second consecutive game. His shorthanded marker in the second period kick started the Horns' four-goal comeback.

Meanwhile, Pronghorns women's rugby captain Ashley Patzer captured Subway Pronghorns Female Athlete of the Week honours as she led the Horns past provincial rival University of Alberta.

In a battle of the top two teams in Canada West, Patzer sparked the Horns to a 22-7 victory over the Pandas. The 2008 CIS Championship MVP picked up 12 of the Horns' 22 points, scoring a try, kicking two converts and adding a penalty goal as the top-rated Horns earned a big win over the fifth-ranked Pandas.

With the win the Horns claimed the top seed heading into the conference championships this weekend where they will face the Canada West fourth seed, Victoria Vikes, in the first semifinal Friday in Edmonton.
