This message signals the start of another Discovery Grant competition cycle. Researchers who intend to apply for a Discovery Grant in the 2023 competition must submit a Notification of Intent to Apply (NOI) by Tuesday, August 2, 2022, 6 p.m. (MT).

No internal approvals are necessary at the NOI stage. NSERC does not accept any NOI after the deadline, and only those who submit an NOI can proceed to submit a full application this fall.

The Discovery Grants Program supports ongoing research programs with long-term goals rather than a single short-term project or collection of projects. These grants recognize the creativity and innovation that are at the heart of all research advances. Discovery Grants are considered “grants in aid” of research. They provide long-term operating funds and can facilitate access to funding from other programs but are not meant to support the full costs of a research program.
