NSERC Discovery Grants Notice of Intent (NOI)

This notice is from the archives of The Notice Board. Information contained in this notice was accurate at the time of publication but may no longer be so.

Researchers who intend to apply for a Discovery Grant in the 2022 competition must submit a Notification of Intent to Apply (NOI) by the deadline of Tuesday, August 3, 2021, 8 p.m. ET = 6 p.m. MT.  No internal approvals are necessary at the NOI stage. NSERC does not accept any NOI after the deadline, and only those who submit an NOI can proceed to submit a full application this fall.

Here is the NSERC's memo for potential applicants.

Deadlines:

  1. August 3, 2021, 8 p.m. ET = 6 p.m. MT - Notice of Intent (NOI)
  1. On October 4*, attach a solid draft of your grant application to a Research Proposal Form on the Bridge. It will allow for review and approvals from the Department Chair, Dean, and VP Research level.  A working copy PDF can be saved from the NSERC Research Portal and uploaded to the Research Proposal Form. Please also include a copy of your CCV. Sola Fasunwon (ORIS Grants Facilitator) will read and provide feedback on your draft at that time (or earlier is undoubtedly welcome – feel free to send Sola a draft anytime in advance).
  2. October 29**: Submit your final application through the NSERC Research Portal.

*Please check with your Department Chair regarding any department-level deadlines and internal review processes.

**Actual NSERC deadline is November 1. However, to allow ORIS to ensure all applications are forwarded adequately before NSERCs specified date and time, applicants are asked to submit their final application by October 29.

Workshop:

The ORIS will hold four workshops for applicants preparing a Notice of Intent (NOI) and a Full Application. Following each presentation, there will be a discussion and Q&A session led by colleagues who have agreed to share their expertise and experience.

Wed, Jun 16, 2021                            NOI & CCV                                          9 – 10 a.m.

Tue, June 22, 2021                           Merit of Proposal                                9 – 10 a.m.
