NSERC Discovery Grant Notice of Intent (NOI)

This notice is from the archives of The Notice Board. Information contained in this notice was accurate at the time of publication but may no longer be so.

This message signals the start of another Discovery Grant competition cycle. Researchers who intend to apply for a Discovery Grant in the 2023 competition must submit a Notification of Intent to Apply (NOI) by Tuesday, August 2, 2022, 6 p.m. (MT).

No internal approvals are necessary at the NOI stage. NSERC does not accept any NOI after the deadline, and only those who submit an NOI can proceed to submit a full application this fall.

Discovery Grant NOI is now available on Research Portal (https://tinyurl.com/zk4nnrx)

Access the NSERC memo for potential applicants here.

Deadlines:

  1. Tuesday, August 2, 2022, 6 p.m. (MT) - Notice of Intent (NOI)
  1. On October 3*, attach a solid draft of your grant application to a Research Proposal Form on the Bridge. It will allow for review and approvals from the Department Chair, Dean, and VP Research level.  A working copy PDF can be saved from the NSERC Research Portal and uploaded to the Research Proposal Form. Please also include a copy of your CCV. Sola Fasunwon (ORIS Grants Facilitator) will read and provide feedback on your draft at that time (or earlier is undoubtedly welcome – feel free to send Sola a draft anytime in advance).
  2. October 28**: Submit your final application through the NSERC Research Portal.

*Please check with your Department Chair regarding department-level deadlines and internal review processes.

**Actual NSERC deadline is November 1. However, to allow ORIS to ensure all applications are forwarded adequately before NSERCs specified date and time, applicants are asked to submit their final application by October 28.

Workshops:

The ORIS will hold four workshops for applicants preparing a Notice of Intent (NOI) and a Full Application. Colleagues who have volunteered to share their expertise and experience will lead a discussion and Q&A session following each presentation.

Webinars

NSERC has scheduled webinars for applicants preparing an NOI and Full Application. Due to COVID-19, NSERC has pre-recorded videos and hosts live Q & A sessions.

Participants are asked to view the pre-recorded videos before attending a live Q&A session, as the material presented in the videos will not be repeated. Dates and times for the live Q & A sessions can be found here.

Important note: You require a CCV at the NOI (August 2) and Full Proposal stage. This year, ORIS is unable to provide CCV or UNIWeb support.
