World Teachers’ Day, celebrated annually on Oct. 5, is an opportunity to honor educators globally, recognizing the contributions they make to furthering education and enhancing society.
Teachers in Alberta face ever expanding classrooms, coupled with increasingly complex classrooms, and the University of Lethbridge’s Faculty of Education is uniquely positioned to shape the future of teaching in the province.

A well-respected academic leader, Dr. Lisa Starr began her role as Dean of the Faculty of Education in 2023. Her background includes training teacher educators in cross-curricular learning, techniques for classroom assessment and educational leadership, and she is a past president of the Canadian Association for the Study of Women and Education (CASWE).
Starr will discuss the future of teacher education, how ULethbridge is positioned to meet the provincial demand for more teachers and recent funding from the Government of Alberta that has allowed the University to double its Early Years Education cohort.
