Advisory — University of Lethbridge to celebrate National Indigenous Peoples Day with ceremony

The University of Lethbridge is proud to celebrate National Indigenous History Month and National Indigenous Peoples Day with a ceremony and announcement on Tuesday, June 23.

 

WHAT: National Indigenous Peoples Day Celebration

 

WHEN: 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., Tuesday, June 23.

 

WHERE: University Hall Fine Arts Atrium – W610 and Iikaisskini Gathering Centre (W650)

 

The campus community is invited to the UHall Fine Arts Atrium for an event that features a Blackfoot naming ceremony for Carter Provost, a former Work-Integrated Learning (WIL) and Indigenous Student Success Certificate (ISSC) student.

 

Piiksinaasin, Faculty of Fine Arts, will announce a significant gift in support of the Indigenous Artist(s) in Residence program and launch a call for artist applications.

Provost will receive a Blackfoot name in a ceremony with Dr. Francis First Charger and Ruben Big Sorrel Horse will do a praise song. Lunch will follow.  

 

* Media are invited to attend all aspects of the ceremony. Interviews will be available with Dr. Leroy Little Bear (Vice-Provost, Iniskim Indigenous Relations) and Dr. Heather Davis-Fisch (Dean, Piiksinaasin, Faculty of Fine Arts) at 12:15 p.m.
