Advisory — University of Lethbridge celebrates rich cultural heritage during Indigenous Awareness Week

The rich cultural heritage, beliefs and aspirations of all Indigenous Peoples is at the forefront of the University of Lethbridge’s Indigenous Awareness Week (IAW) activities, March 2-6.

A host of engaging events including feasts, teepee raisings, arts and crafts, Indigenous storytelling and more will take place throughout the week, inviting the community to learn about Indigenous culture and ways of knowing. The University is also celebrating a milestone — marking 50 years of Indigenous education, programming, community engagement, scholarship and research through the Department of Indigenous Studies.

Key events for the week include Monday’s Opening Ceremony (11 a.m. to noon, University Hall Atrium) and Wednesday’s Powwow (11 a.m. to 3 p.m., Science Commons Atrium).

Dr. Leroy Little Bear, Vice-Provost, Iniskim Indigenous Relations, is available for media interviews at each of the signature events (Monday, March 2, 10:30 a.m. and Wednesday, March 4, 11:30 a.m.).
