Advisory — University Library to unveil Ian Tyson Reading Area, reflecting late singer’s personal library
A multi-faceted collection of memorabilia from the estate of the late Dr. Ian D. Tyson (LLD ’15) was bequeathed to the University of Lethbridge following the 2022 death of the Canadian country music icon. The ULethbridge Library has created a new space on campus celebrating the singer-songwriter and southern Alberta rancher that pays homage to his legacy through the books in his personal collection.

Tyson produced many popular and critically acclaimed folk songs reflecting rural culture in Alberta. He has been inducted into the Juno Hall of Fame, the Canadian Country Music Hall of Fame and the Western Music Association Hall of Fame, is a member of the Order of Canada, was inducted into the Alberta Order of Excellence, and has received a Governor General’s Performing Arts Award and the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Medal. In 2015, the University of Lethbridge granted Tyson an honorary Doctor of Laws.
