This course is open to members of the public and Canada Wildfire students who will participate in lectures and labs for 5 days of non-credit training that will result in a certificate of completion.

Course materials will cover basic to intermediate concepts in airborne lidar technology, applications and data handling. A range of environmental mapping and natural resources topics will be presented and discussed. Demos and lab exercises will follow a hypothetical forest biomass and fire fuel attribute mapping / modelling workflow from mission planning to data handling to biomass modeling and post-fire assessment.

The instruction format is intensive lecture, lab and field day delivery hosted over 5 days at the U of L during the first summer teaching session starting May 8th 2023. While airborne lidar will be the focus of course instruction and exercises, short examples and demonstrations of terrestrial laser scanning (TLS) and/or remote piloted airborne system (RPAS) lidar operations and data handling will be presented.

Non-credit students will take short pass / fail tests in order to earn a certificate of course completion that covers basic competencies.
