Introductory GIS with QGIS

Learn to conduct basic spatial analysis with hands-on experience using Quantum GIS. This first course in a a stackable micro-credential focuses on data structures and collection, fundamental GIS functions and spatial data analysis.

Insight Series: Curiosity and Creativity

Learn the role of curiosity and creativity in professional contexts, how to identify these two attributes at the individual level, and how to develop them as skills in themselves and others.

Foundations of New Media

Hone your digital media, photography, video, web development and design skills for the workplace, whether you freelance, work in marketing, run a small business or dabble in content development.

Core Principles for Visual Design

Introduction to design fundamentals and principles as they relate to new media. Concepts and practice of graphic design theory will be explored in relation to specific media such as print, web, and other new media applications.

Who is this course designed for?

This course is well suited for the individual who is either interested in getting into visual design or even who works with visual designers (as a means to better understand the process). In today’s work place, may people have to fill a variety of roles (often ones they have little to no training to fill). If you are being asked to create images for posters, your company website or social media streams, this course can help get you started. Maybe you are looking to change jobs and get into visual design - this course is a great way to “get your feet wet” and see if this is something that you are passionate about.

Intellectual Property: Cover Your Assets

This series will cover all the basics of the different types of intellectual property and will help get you started on your IP journey. Attend an individual session or a minimum of four sessions to receive a badge of completion and recognition.

What do I need to apply? 

  • An elevator pitch. Follow the guide on this page to help craft your elevator pitch. This pitch can be submitted via video or written text.  
  • Participant information. 
  • The program opens on February 7th, 2023 and ends March 31st, 2023.
  • group learning sessions will be offered between February 14th – March 28th. Online sessions will be Monday nights from 7-8 pm. In-person sessions will be Tuesday nights from 6-7 PM at the U of L campus.

Digital Video Storytelling and Editing

An introduction to the fundamental concepts and techniques of digital video production, with studies in aesthetics and sequence construction. Through the process of pre-production, production, and post-production students will utilize elements and principles of directing, cinematography, and editing.

Oral History Summer Institute

Play your part in preserving the voices, memories, and perspectives of people throughout history. The Oral History Summer Institute is designed for participants to get hands-on experience with oral history project design, recording technology, and interview techniques.

French Conversation: intermediate/advanced

Ce cours non crédité est destiné à ceux et à celles qui peuvent déjà tenir une conversation simple ou complexe en français et qui souhaitent maintenir le français déjà acquis et mieux le maîtriser.
