University of Lethbridge Spring 2022 Convocation week activities

This week, the University of Lethbridge will celebrate the achievements of three graduating classes with an unprecedented six, in-person convocation ceremonies over three days. A total of 1,220 students will cross the stage at Spring 2022 Convocation, including 934 from the class of 2022 and another 286 students from the 2020 and 2021 graduating classes. Past graduands have accepted the invitation to return to campus to walk the stage having missed the experience due to COVID-19 limitations that necessitated online ceremonies.

This week’s ceremonies take place Wednesday, June 1 (past graduands), Thursday, June 2, and Friday, June 3, at the 1st Choice Savings Centre for Sport and Wellness., beginning at 9:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. each day.

All ceremonies are free of charge and open to the public and media. Following is a look at the week’s activities.

Wednesday, June 1

Ceremony I — 9:30 a.m. — 2020 Graduates (all degrees); 2020 Distinguished Alumnus of the Year: Cheryl Andres (BN ’87); Address from 2020 Young Alumnus of the Year Julian SpearChief-Morris (BA ’13)

Ceremony II — 2:30 p.m. — 2021 Graduates (all degrees); Address from 2021 Distinguished Alumnus of the Year Bradley Hamilton (BMgt ’88); Young Alumnus of the Year: Fern Leavens (BSc ’13)

Let there Be Light Night — 7 p.m., Science Commons Atrium — Let There Be Light Night is a celebration of the achievements of our 2020 and 2021 Alumni Achievement Award Winners presented by the University of Lethbridge and the University of Lethbridge Alumni Association (ULAA). 

Thursday, June 2

Ceremony III – 9:30 a.m. – School of Graduate Studies (PhD and MSc); Faculty of Arts & Science (BASC, BSc); Honorary Degree: Kevin Van Tighem

Ceremony IV – 2:30 p.m. – School of Graduate Studies (MA and MN); Faculty of Arts & Science (BA); Faculty of Health Sciences (BHSc and BN); Honorary Degree: Ruth Collins-Nakai; Speaker Research Medal: Dr. Trevor Harrison

Chancellor’s Dinner – 6 p.m., Science Commons Atrium – A dinner to celebrate the accomplishments of our community and learn more about the future of the University of Lethbridge

Friday, June 3

Ceremony V – 9:30 a.m. – School of Graduate Studies (MC, MEd, MFA, MMus); Faculty of Education (BEd); Faculty of Fine Arts (all programs); Honorary Degree: Waneek Horn-Miller; University Volunteer Award: Dr. Trushar Patel

Ceremony VI – 2:30 p.m. – School of Graduate Studies (MHSM, MSc (Mgt)); Graduate Certificates; Dhillon School of Business (all programs); Faculty of Health Sciences; Honorary Degree: Jack Major

Interview opportunities are available following the conclusion of each ceremony (approximately 11:30 a.m. for morning ceremonies and 4 p.m. for afternoon ceremonies). Due to time constraints, there is NO AVAILABILITY FOR THE CONVOCATION ORGANIZING TEAM PRIOR TO CEREMONIES.

Graduands and platform guests will be assembling in University Hall, Level 6, prior to each procession.
