University of Lethbridge nursing students organize popular annual health fair for seniors
Media are invited to attend the fair on Thursday, Nov. 27 from 9:30 a.m. to noon
Every year, University of Lethbridge nursing students spend a semester organizing a health fair at the Nord-Bridge Seniors Centre, an event that was initiated by nursing students several years ago, and which has grown in popularity over the years.
“Our members always look forward to this event every year,” says Ashley Kern, program coordinator at Nord-Bridge.
Students begin with an assessment to determine information and knowledge older adults want about health, as well as services that are relevant to their interests and needs. The students then reach out to agencies and businesses in the community and invite them to be vendors. The event has now become more widely known with some vendors approaching Nord-Bridge and the students to participate.
“In addition to vendors, the students seek support from the community with regard to door prizes and food,” says Penni Wilson, ULethbridge nursing instructor. “We have amazing partners that generously support this event, who the students ensure are recognized for that support.”
Spokespeople include Ashley Kern, Nord-Bridge program coordinator, and Maddy Yanish, ULethbridge nursing student.
