The Alberta RNA Research and Training Institute (ARRTI) presents U of L neuroscientist Dr. Artur Luczak in a talk about using artificial intelligence to decode brain and behaviour.

Architecture & Design NOW Series — Ian MacGregor

Monday, Jan. 28, 6 to 8:50 p.m., L1060, LINC Building

Ian MacGregor, an Alberta entrepreneur, founded the Canadian Museum of Making, a private museum that gathers items that live in the intersection between engineering and art. He also develops technically complex commercial opportunities that permit growth to world scale. Those ventures include North West Refining, Enhance Energy, North West Capital Partners, Ambyint, Shackleton Exploration and Carraig Ridge Inc., a development hub of contemporary architecture set in the foothills.

Inter-Cultural Competency

Pause for Paws therapy dogs

Bell Let’s Talk Day

Wednesday, Jan. 30, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., PE Foyer, 1st Choice Savings Centre

The Student Success Centre is encouraging the U of L community to pick up a toque, sign the pledge banner and write a message of encouragement on a talk bubble. A photo booth will be available to share talk bubbles on social media as part of the #BellLetsTalk campaign. For every text, mobile and long-distance call made on the Bell network, every tweet using #BellLetsTalk, social media video view, use of the Facebook frame or Snapchat filter, Bell will contribute five cents more to Canadian mental health programs.

Orontes Guitar Quartet

Thanks to support from Lethbridge’s Heart of our City fund, the U of L Conservatory of Music is hosting a free Lunch & Listen concert with the Orontes Guitar Quartet, a Syrian group of musicians who are currently at the University of Victoria on a fellowship residence. Their amazing story appears in the Globe and Mail article Band on the Run.

Elon Musk — President of Mars?

Dr. Michael Byers, Canada Research Chair in Global Politics and International Law at the University of British Columbia, focuses on outer space, Arctic sovereignty, climate change, the law of the sea, the laws of war and Canadian foreign and defence. His talk will delve into the current or readily foreseeable issues of space debris, space mining, and the establishment of settlements on Mars.
