Wellness Lunch & Learn — Nordic Pole Walking

Tuesday, April 10, noon to 1 p.m., AH100, Andy’s Place, Anderson Hall

Nordic Pole Walking, or Urban Pole Walking, is a low-impact cardio exercise that increases calories burned, uses up to 90 per cent of muscles, reduces stress on hips and knees and more. Elizabeth Sutton, a physiotherapist at Peak Physical Therapy, will introduce the technique and explain the benefits during a 15- to 20-minute talk. A demonstration of the technique and active participation follow.

Music at Noon — Studio Showcase

The final Music at Noon session for the semester will showcase the work of senior music students.

Earth Day Symposium

Tuesday, April 10, 2 to 5 p.m., Atrium, University Hall

Led by U of L students, this symposium includes information booths and diverse presentations by faculty members and community organizations. Dr. Philip Bonnaventure, assistant professor in the Department of Geography, will deliver a keynote address on permafrost and climate change. Other presenters include Dr. Maura Hanrahan from Indigenous Studies, Dr. Stefan Kienzle, also from geography, Bill Spenceley from Flexahopper, Nick Savidov, senior research scientist in aquaponics at Lethbridge College, and Phil Dyck, Facilities manager, who will talk about bioswales. Participating organizations include the Oldman Watershed Council, the City of Lethbridge, Environment Lethbridge and the Kainai Ecosystem Protection Association.

Last Lecture and ULSU Teaching Excellence Awards

Tuesday, April 10, 7 p.m., U of L Theatre, Level 5, Centre for the Arts

For the Last Lecture, the ULSU asks three professors to impart some wisdom about their lives and what they think should be the most important takeaways in the game of life. Featured speakers at this year’s Last Lecture include Dr. Steve Ferzacca (anthropology), Dr. Stefan Kienzle (geography) and Lisa Lambert (political science).

Found Objects

Wednesday, April 11, 5 p.m., W420, Drama Studio

Students of Drama 3765 (New Play Workshop) have spent the semester developing the new play Found Objects by James Odin Wade (BFA ’11) and Trevor Rueger and they have scheduled a public reading under the direction of Gail Hanrahan.

Current Issues in Gambling Research 2018

Speakers from North America, Europe and Australia will present cutting-edge ideas in gambling research in the 17th annual conference of the Alberta Gambling Research Institute. Dhillon School of Business 2018 Scholarship Dinner

The annual scholarship dinner raises funds for Dhillon School of Business student scholarships. This year’s honouree is Navjeet (Bob) Dhillon, president and CEO of Mainstreet Equity Corporation, who recently pledged a $10-million gift to the University, transforming the Faculty of Management into the Dhillon School of Business.

Volunteer Lethbridge Colour Fun Run

Sunday, April 15, 2 to 6 p.m., Grove, near Markin Hall

Volunteer Lethbridge, in partnership with the U of L Students’ Union, is sponsoring the sixth annual five-kilometre Colour Fun Run to raise funds to support programming at Volunteer Lethbridge, which in turn supports member agencies and the Lethbridge community. The event is family friendly and open to all ages.
