U of L oral history workshops expand to Milk River

Tuesday, October 1, 2019
The Centre for Oral History and Tradition (COHT) at the University of Lethbridge is taking its oral history workshops farther afield thanks to the efforts of alumnus Dale Leffingwell (BASC ’71). As president of the Milk River Historical Society, Leffingwell partnered with the U of L to bring an oral history workshop to the community on Saturday, Oct. 5. The workshop will focus on the basics of doing an oral history project, including interviewing and transcription.

U of L education students participate in Orange Shirt Day

Media are invited to attend on Monday, Sept. 30 between 9 and 10:30 a.m. in the Students’ Union Ballroom University of Lethbridge education students will be participating in Orange Shirt Day on Monday, Sept. 30 as part of a three-day conference designed to build foundational knowledge about First Nations, Métis and Inuit peoples. Orange Shirt Day was created to educate people about the residential school system and the impact it had on Indigenous communities.

Seeing ourselves in other animals is a very human thing to do. On the one hand, this is entirely appropriate — we are animals ourselves after all. On the other hand, it can give rise to a misleading view of other species if we insist on comparing them to humans, especially as we often consider ourselves to be above the other animals: our large relative brain size, and spectacular ability to invent and use technology, seems to place us at a remove from the rest of the Animal Kingdom.
