The Faculty of Health Sciences at the University of Lethbridge has chosen former dean Dr. Chris Hosgood as this year’s recipient of the Friend of Health Sciences Award, an award he instituted during his time as dean. “We are so pleased to honour Chris with the Friend of Health Sciences Award,” says Dr. Jon Doan, dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences. “His hard work, dedication and leadership skills enabled the growth of Health Sciences and the development of unique programming. He has left a significant and invaluable legacy that deserves to be celebrated.”

The Southern Alberta Technology Council (SATC), which has organized the Lethbridge Regional Science Fair and Science Olympics (i.e., Sci-Fusion) since 2002, is pleased to announce that this year’s event is to be held as an in-person event, hosted on the University of Lethbridge campus, Apr. 26-27, 2024. The last in-person Science Fair on the University campus took place in 2019, and the group is looking forward to welcoming future scientists, engineers and so much more to the University to celebrate discovery.

The development of a new comprehensive strategic plan for the University of Lethbridge is underway and the University is asking the broader southern Alberta community to provide input and insight into this important project.

What began as a working group focused on effective teaching methods during the pandemic has become an innovative resource to building a more inclusive post-secondary environment — and it’s open to teachers in all sectors of education.

Eight University of Lethbridge research projects focused on water storage, carbon storage, insect health, fish habitat and the endangered sage grouse will go ahead thanks to a $500,000 grant from Alberta Environment and Protected Areas (AEPA).

It takes a special kind of person to balance coursework, studying, a part-time job and a healthy social life. It takes an exceptional person to recognize they have more to give and are willing to share their time raising the world around them and bettering their community.

University of Lethbridge researchers have been monitoring plant life in Waterton Lakes National Park to see how they’re responding following the massive Kenow wildfire in 2017. “We know we have increasing fires on the landscape recently, so plant communities are going to have to deal with that,” says Dr. Jenny McCune, a ULethbridge biology professor. “But then we also have increases in human-caused stressors like recreation. There’s a real question about how those two different sources of stress will interact and whether one will magnify the effects of the other.”

With stories ranging from adaptations of classic tales to intense encounters, social satire and a cabaret, the 2024/25 Department of Drama alumni season promises an exciting lineup of mainstage theatre with extensive involvement from many University of Lethbridge alumni. The alumni season is organized around a celebration of Faculty of Fine Arts alumni, bringing playwrights, designers, directors, performers and more back to the ULethbridge campus.

The ULethbridge Physics & Astronomy department and Lethbridge Astronomy Society invite the community to witness this astronomical phenomenon Around noon on Monday, April 8, residents of Lethbridge and the surrounding area will have the opportunity to witness a partial solar eclipse, an awe-inspiring event that will captivate observers of all ages.
