University of Lethbridge public health researcher to cycle across Canada raising funds for Alzheimer’s research

Like many of us, Dr. Richard Larouche is looking forward to hitting the road and experiencing the beauty of the Canadian landscape this summer. Unlike the majority, he’ll be doing so on his bike, with an ambitious plan to cycle 8,000 kilometres across Canada as he looks to raise funds in support of the Alzheimer Society of Canada.

WHEN: Thursday, May 2, 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. WHERE: PE250, 1st Choice Savings Centre track, University of Lethbridge (Note: in the morning, students will gather in the 1st Choice Savings Centre, PE250. The science quiz competition will take place first, followed by lunch and a keynote speaker. The engineering challenge will take place after lunch on the athletic track, and the day will finish back in PE250 for the winner announcements – the Let’s Talk Science team can escort interested media to these locations.)

Advisory - Interactive program brings University Mace to southern Alberta schools

The University of Lethbridge Mace Program will visit a variety of schools this spring, educating Grade 6 students about the U of L’s Convocation and its associated traditions and symbols. Chief Marshal Dr. Olu Awosoga, dressed in full regalia, will speak to students about the history of the mace and how it fits into the annual Convocation ceremonies. Students will then have the opportunity to don white gloves and hold the mace, which has been used in U of L Convocation ceremonies since being dedicated in 1988. Alberta Innovates grant facilitates joint research project on the hepatitis B virus

Dr. Trushar Patel at the University of Lethbridge and Dr. Carla Coffin at the University of Calgary have secured Alberta Innovates funding worth $639,000 to further research aimed at developing innovative strategies to combat hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection. HBV is a global public health problem responsible for a million deaths every year, according to the Hepatitis B Foundation.
