Zebra chip pathogen found in Western Canada for the first time

For the first time, evidence of the zebra chip pathogen has been found in potato fields in southern Alberta, but the University of Lethbridge’s Dr. Dan Johnson cautions against panic.

Cash prizes up for grabs at annual Chinook Symposium

Chemistry and Biochemistry students will be vying for cash prizes as they showcase their research work to a panel of judges at the 11th annual Chinook Symposium on Friday, Oct. 20. Their research topics are wide ranging, including concussion diagnosis, the effects of tobacco on DNA, pathways in fusarium head blight (a disease affecting cereal grains), and the effects of prebiotics and moderate exercise in the gut bacteria of rats.

Longtime nursing educator to receive Friends of Health Sciences Award

A sudden change of mind led Dr. Joyce D’Andrea to nursing but it proved to be a wise decision that set the course for a lengthy and rewarding career in nursing education. Dr. Shelly Wismath appointed first dean of University of Lethbridge School of Liberal Education

Recently named one of the most exceptional post-secondary teachers in Canada, Dr. Shelly Wismath has been appointed the first dean of the University of Lethbridge’s new School of Liberal Education. The U of L’s Board of Governors approved the appointment last week, granting Wismath a five-year term that commences Monday, Oct. 16, 2017.

University of Lethbridge Pronghorns sole sisters helping souls

The University of Lethbridge Pronghorns Women’s Basketball team, with the support of the Faculty of Education and Runners Soul, has been leading the Reclaiming Your Sole shoe drive to make sure local children and teens have a pair of athletic shoes. More than 100 pairs of shoes have been donated and members of the Horns women’s basketball team will be delivering shoes to Lethbridge Family Services – Immigrant Services, located at 1107 2A Ave. N., on Thursday, October 12 at 10 a.m. Media are invited to attend.
