High School Synthetic Biology Team Wins Six Medals for BioTreks Paper

Students from the Lethbridge High School iGEM team earn accolades and have their paper published in online journal. The 2018 iGEM season continues to be a great success for members of the Lethbridge high school team. The team submitted a scientific paper outlining their synthetic biology project, as well as participated in an online conference. “This was a great experience for the students,” says team mentor Sydnee Calhoun. “We are so proud of their progress and how much they have learned this year.”

Dhillon School of Business to launch new minor in Family and Small Business

University of Lethbridge students who want to establish or advise a small business can take a new minor this fall that will give them the necessary knowledge and skills to succeed. “From evaluating market opportunities and testing assumptions to analyzing financial resources and spotting growth opportunities, the Family and Small Business minor will give students broad knowledge of small business enterprises,” says Bruce Thurston (BASc ’78), a Dhillon School of Business faculty member.

U of L students log more than 7,500 volunteer hours

Almost 600 University of Lethbridge students have volunteered more than 7,500 hours at community organizations as they learn first-hand about civic engagement through the UVolunteer program. Since 2015, the U of L has operated UVolunteer in partnership with Volunteer Lethbridge to match and track students working with non-profit groups in the city. The initiative came about through the efforts of Dr. Mike Mahon, U of L president and vice-chancellor. Part of his vision was ensuring that students contribute to Lethbridge and surrounding communities.
