U of L establishes Office of Post-Doctoral Affairs

Post-doctoral fellows at the University of Lethbridge will soon have a new administrative home with the establishment of the Office of Post-Doctoral Affairs. “We’ve had post-doctoral fellows on this campus for a number of years now,” says Dr. Robert Wood, dean of Graduate Studies and Post-Doctoral Affairs. “In the past, they were considered trainees. That changed recently with the passing of Bill 7 and now they are considered employees, creating some needs institutionally to provide further accommodation.”

University inviting prospective students to campus for Exploration Open House, Saturday, Feb. 3

The University of Lethbridge is throwing open its doors for prospective students, their families and the community on Saturday, Feb. 3 for its Exploration Open House. This is the second successive year that the University has offered a spring open house event in addition to the traditional fall open house, giving even more students the opportunity to explore campus, meet faculty and staff and discover the opportunities that await at the U of L.

U of L hosts its first High School Model UN Conference

The University of Lethbridge is excited to announce its first ever High School Model United Nations Conference. During the conference, students will learn how to creatively solve problems that may arise by building leadership skills, innovative thinking, teamwork, expressing ideas and listening to others.

Destination Exploration earns Mentorship Award

Destination Exploration, the University of Lethbridge’s youth science program, netted a Mentorship Award at the Actua awards banquet in Ottawa recently. Actua is a Canadian charitable organization delivering science and technology experiences to youth, with membership that spans 36 colleges and universities.

Destination Exploration receives CanCode funding through Actua to expand digital programming for youth

Actua, the national organization that represents Destination Exploration at the University of Lethbridge, has been named the largest recipient of funding from the Government of Canada’s new CanCode program. CanCode is a $50-million fund, announced in the federal budget 2017, that supports the development of coding and digital skills for youth across Canada.

Improving animal nutrition and food safety at heart of research study published in Nature Microbiology

As the world grapples with the big problem of feeding 7.6 billion people, University of Lethbridge adjunct professor Dr. Wade Abbott of Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada and his team have detailed the smallest of metabolic reactions with the goal of improving food security, food safety and animal nutrition.
