Media Advisory — National Indigenous Peoples Day activities at University of Lethbridge

Wednesday, June 21, is National Indigenous Peoples Day (NIPD), a day to recognize and celebrate the culture and contributions of Indigenous Peoples to communities across Canada. There are many activities planned throughout Lethbridge to mark National Indigenous Peoples Week. 

The community is invited to celebrate NIPD on the ULethbridge campus on Tuesday, June 20Beginning at 11 a.m., there will be a smudge in the Iikaisskini Gathering Centre followed by a round dance and light refreshments in the UHall Atrium, hosted by Iikaisskini Indigenous Services. 

At 1 p.m., join Siksiikakoan (Blackfootman) Shane McDougall and the Agility team for traditional Indigenous games and medicine bag making in the UHall Atrium, followed by a teepee raising at 2 p.m. in The Grove. In case of rain, the tipi raising will take place in the UHall Atrium. 

Tuesday, June 20

11 a.m. | Smudge, round dance & refreshments | Iikaisskini Gathering Centre & UHall Atrium 

1 p.m. | Indigenous games & medicine bag making | UHall Atrium 

2 p.m. | Teepee raising | The Grove (weather permitting) or UHall Atrium
