High school students test their trading skills in live competition

Wednesday, May 25, 2016

The University of Lethbridge’s first ever High School Finance Competition has been underway for a few weeks and the students are now preparing for the live competition portion which will be held on Friday, May 27, in the Centre for Financial Market Research and Teaching, better known as the trading room.

Ten teams from nine different schools in southern Alberta registered for the competition that began on April 18 with The Investment Challenge. Teams created a portfolio and bought and sold gold bars, treasury bills and stocks. Each team will privately present its results to a panel of judges on the day of live competition.

The Trading Challenge on Friday will give students the chance to compete against each other in real time in two eight-minute challenges. The top three teams will receive a trophy and cash prizes.

Media are invited to cover the event and interview organizers and participants.
