Advisory — ULethbridge welcomes potential Indigenous students to Iniskim Future Students Day

The University of Lethbridge is hosting its third annual Iniskim Future Students Day (IFSD) on Tuesday, Feb. 24

ULethbridge’s Blackfoot name is Iniskim, meaning Sacred Buffalo Stone, gifted by Elder Bruce Wolf Child in 2002. IFSD aims to address the barriers Indigenous students often face in accessing or pursuing post-secondary education and provide pathways to success.

With a full day of activities, the event will introduce potential Indigenous post-secondary students to all the possibilities open to them at the ULethbridge campus.

Attendees will have the opportunity to talk to current students, faculty and staff and can explore the many programs, supports and resources available for Indigenous students. This includes a booth exhibition featuring Faculties and departments such as admissions and scholarships, Career Bridge, housing and Iikaisskini Indigenous Services, as well as on-the-spot admission. There will also be a Play Area hosted by the Lethbridge Family Centre and Destination Exploration so that parents, guardians and siblings can attend with any young children.

Interactive sessions include a video game workshop hosted by the Department of New Media, a biophysics experiment where you can make your favourite colour and analyze using a spectrophotometer and a Make your Mark workshop with Indigenous Governance and Business Management’s Dr. Don McIntyre.

The day will also include panels from the Early Start Program and the Indigenous Student Success Certificate (ISSC). Current ISSC students, alumni and staff will share insights and experiences about how this excellent stepping-stone program prepared them for academic success at ULethbridge.

IFSD is an opportunity to meet Indigenous ULethbridge students, graduates, staff and professors to learn their experiences. Campus tours are also available. Lunch is provided and there will be prizes!

Media are invited to an availability anytime between 10:30 a.m. to noon during the Exhibition Booth Fair located in the Science Commons Atrium (Level 7) at ULethbridge. IFSD runs from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

Available to interview:
