Halloween brings about some scary situations but nothing that rivals the horror of losing your identity to thieves. Information Technology Services at the University of Lethbridge is here to help by once again partnering with Lethbridge Mobile Shredding to offer free shredding of personal paper materials, hard-drive degaussing and e-waste recycling to the public.

WHAT: Nightmare on Shred Street 4 – The Shred Master free shredding and e-waste collection event

WHEN: Thursday, Oct. 31, 2019, from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.

WHERE: Bus drop-off area outside the 1st Choice Savings Centre for Sport and Wellness

Some of the personal materials you can bring include:

Bank statements
Credit card bills
Utility bills
Pay stubs
Tax documents
Medical records
Store receipts
Old hard drives

University of Lethbridge Students’ Union staff will also be on hand to collect donations of cash and non-perishable food items for the campus food bank.

Last year, Nightmare on Shred Street helped more than 140 people protect themselves from identity fraud by shredding over 2,200 gallons of paper documents. Over two cubic metres of electronic waste was also collected and sent for recycling. A degausser was on site to demagnetize and erase 45 hard drives before recycling. Donations for the University of Lethbridge Campus Food Bank raised $736 and yielded 220 food items to help University of Lethbridge students through the end of the fall term.
