Advisory — University of Lethbridge to become first post-secondary to sign as supporter of Buffalo Treaty

Tuesday, March 7, 2023

On September 24, 2014, the first Buffalo Treaty was signed on the Blackfeet Reservation near Browning, Montana. It was signed by eight First Nations – four American and four Canadian. Since 2014, nearly 50 First Nations have signed the Buffalo Treaty along with hundreds of individuals and organizations —all in agreement to work toward the educational and environmental objectives of the treaty.

Join the University of Lethbridge as it becomes the first post-secondary institution to sign the treaty.

WHAT: Signing of the Buffalo Treaty

WHEN: Wednesday, Mar. 8, 11:30 a.m.

WHERE: Science Commons Atrium

*Media availability for the Buffalo Treaty signing is scheduled for 11 a.m. in Science Commons Atrium

Students, staff and faculty who wish to sign as supporters of the Buffalo Treaty may do so at the event. Learn more about the Buffalo Treaty at buffalotreaty.com.

ULethbridge will also welcome special guests Wes Olson and Johane Janelle for a book talk and signing of The Ecological Buffalo, beginning at 10 a.m. in Science Commons Atrium.

Based on Olson’s 35 years of working intimately with bison – and featuring Johane Janelle’s stunning photography – The Ecological Buffalo takes a journey through the myriad of connections this keystone species has with the Great Plains.
