Faculty Artists & Friends Series

Metrik Jazztet

Metrik Jazztet is southern Alberta’s newest and most exciting jazz group. Metrik performs intriguing and innovative music written for a unique set up and features 10 of the best jazz musicians in Alberta. Arrangements and original compositions will include the styles of Funk, Latin, Rock, and of course, Jazz!

The Metrik Jazztet was created in early 2018 with the idea of exploring a less-traveled path of jazz in Southern Alberta.  This unique ensemble is the only of its kind south of Calgary and features the area’s best jazz musicians, original compositions, and member arrangements of music in all idioms of jazz. Stuck directly in between a small group and a big band, this “little big band” or “tentet” offers jazz musicians the power and drive of a big band with more opportunities for individual expression than is traditionally offered by a larger 18 piece jazz orchestra. This evening you will see each musician featured in many different capacities, and much of this music is specifically arranged for the Metrik Jazztet!
