Post-Secondary Pancake Breakfast to celebrate community and partnership

Now in its fourth year, the Post-Secondary Pancake Breakfast has become a fixture of Lethbridge’s Whoop-Up Days celebration. Given the integral relationships the University of Lethbridge and Lethbridge Polytechnic have developed with community partners across southern Alberta, the breakfast is a natural opportunity to come together and celebrate those connections.

“Our institutions help define Lethbridge and southern Alberta and similarly, the people of this region and their priorities help shape our identities,” says University of Lethbridge President and Vice-Chancellor Dr. Digvir Jayas. “The connections we nurture, and the vast number of alumni who help drive the economic engine of this region are all interconnected, and we experience success working together and for each other.”

Established in 2023 after both institutions welcomed new presidents into the fold, the Post-Secondary Pancake Breakfast was initiated as a celebration of community and the many ways ULethbridge and Lethbridge Polytechnic contribute to the vitality and success of Lethbridge and southern Alberta.

“This breakfast is a celebration of what is possible when institutions work together in service of their communities,” says Dr. Brad Donaldson, president and CEO of Lethbridge Polytechnic. “Together, we help create opportunities for learners, support workforce development and contribute to the continued success of southern Alberta. We are excited to once again celebrate those connections by welcoming the community to join us for breakfast.”

This year’s free event, open to all alumni, current and future students, employees and friends of the institutions, takes place Friday, Aug. 21, from 9 to 11 a.m. at Casa. More than a hearty meal of pancakes and other breakfast staples prepared by the polytechnic’s culinary students, the event features lawn games and a performance by Tea for Trio, local musicians Akeo Ichikawa on piano, Ben Weiss on bass and Tavis Dueck on drums. And of course, mascots Kodi and Luxie will be on hand as special guests.
