ART NOW - Jill Stanton Speaks February 10th, 2016 at Noon in the Recital Hall

Jill Stanton is an Edmonton-based artist who uses the language of comics and graphic narrative to examine themes of dreams, nature, technology and the future. Her work spans various scales—from smaller drawings in graphic novels and comic books, to exploring pattern and environment in large-scale murals and transitory public pieces. Jill's work has been featured in Manning Hall at the Art Gallery of Alberta, the 2015 Alberta Biennial of Contemporary Art, the 2015 Sled Island Music Festival in Calgary, and various private mural commissions.

ART NOW - Tanya Doody Speaks February 3rd, 2016 at Noon in the Recital Hall

Tanya Doody will discuss her research and extended practice centering on ceramics. 

Tanya Doody is a Canadian artist working in a variety of media including performance, video, and sculpture. Her work revolves around craftivist strategies, performative acts, and poetic gestures.

Her work can often take the form of one-on-one encounters with the viewer-turned-participant, centering on actions mediated by handmade ceramic objects.

ART NOW - Robert Bechtel Speaks January 27th, 2016 at Noon in the Recital Hall

Robert Bechtel was raised in Lethbridge attending the University of Lethbridge from 1993 to 1998. He has maintained a studio practice as well as being involved in the local arts community participating with such groups as the Potemkin art collective and Trap/Door. He has had an interest in participating in the organization of group shows where the practice of art is open to the widest possible audience. Robert has had an interest in painting as well as installation and video, moving from one to the other depending on the requirements of the project.

ART NOW - Yoko Takashima Speaks January 8th, 2016 at Noon in the Recital Hall

Yoko Takashima was born and raised in Japan.  She received her BA from Kyoto Women’s University, BFA from University of Lethbridge, and MFA from University of Victoria.  She has exhibited since 1995 in Canada, US, Asia and Europe.  Her selected solo shows are at Art Gallery of Greater Victoria, Western Front Gallery in Vancouver, Contemporary Art Gallery in Vancouver, Southern Alberta Art Gallery in Lethbridge, OBORO in Montreal, A Space in Toronto, The New Gallery in Calgary, and Art Tower Mito in Mito, Japan.  Her selected group shows include at Vancouver Art Gallery, Glenbow Museum in Ca
