U of L’s 1st Choice Savings Centre for Sport & Wellness to reopen with limitations on July 13

As the University of Lethbridge works toward a gradual and safe reopening of its facilities, Horns Recreation is pleased to announce the 1st Choice Savings Centre will reopen on Monday, July 13 in a limited capacity.

“We look forward to welcoming our members back to our facilities,” says Bill Halma, director of Horns Recreation. “To ensure the health and safety of everyone involved, we will be operating in a much different manner.”

Condolence Notice — Gordon Melvin

The University of Lethbridge extends its sincere condolences to the friends and family of Gordon Melvin, who passed away on Thursday, June 25 at the age of 72.

He was born and raised in Lethbridge and began working in Security Services at the U of L in 1987. After serving as a security officer for many years, Melvin retired in 2012.

Community Weekly Update — June 26, 2020

With Alberta’s state of public health emergency ending on June 15, the University’s Emergency Operations Committee (EOC) has shifted to preparing for a phased relaunch.

Reflecting this shift in focus, the committee’s name will change to the Relaunch Coordination Committee (RCC) and two new co-chairs have been appointed to lead the process — TJ Hanson, associate vice-president (Facilities), and Chris Mattatall, associate dean (Education).

Anderson Hall to remain open during the summer

Anderson Hall will remain open until Wednesday, August 26 to provide access for students who need Wi-Fi, IT equipment and resources, software and the Library. The available rooms include a computer lab (AH147), a study room (AH116) and an equipment room (AH175) to sign out and return laptops on loan.

Starting on Monday, June 22, operating hours at Anderson Hall will be Monday to Friday from 12 to 4:30 p.m.

New campus access safety training now available

Anyone who has already applied or is planning to apply for access to campus for critical or time-sensitive research, teaching preparation, to support summer or fall 2020 program completion, or for ongoing staff access and has not yet taken the required training, the new Campus Access Safety Training is available at https://go.uleth.ca/covid19-oncampus-training.

Community update — Summer Camps, Community Stadium and Centre for Sport & Wellness

Alberta entered Stage 2 of its relaunch strategy on June 12, 2020. While provincial guidelines now allow for use of sport and recreation spaces, the province’s Guidance for Post-Secondary Institutions continues to direct universities to limit in-person attendance on campus as much as possible.
