What does Early Childhood Education and Care have to do with Global Political Economy? 

Early childhood education, care and development programs have spread across the globe since 2000.  These programs dedicated to school-readiness and the development of healthy brains are a powerful global assemblage that connects education enterprise, brain science, and community-led development.  Based on fieldwork in Indonesia, Jan Newberry, considers these “developments” in terms of childhood studies and global political economy to argue for the continuing relevance of social reproduction.

Douglas Willms is a Professor and Co-Director of the Canadian Research Institute for Social Policy at the University of New Brunswick (UNB), and holds the Canada Research Chair in Literacy and Human Development. He is a Member of the US National Academy of Education, a Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada and President Elect and Fellow of the International Academy of Education.
