Dr. Marc Roussel appointed as associate dean for Faculty of Arts & Science

The Faculty of Arts & Science has appointed a new associate dean, Dr. Marc Roussel, who will begin his role immediately.

Dr. Marc Roussel is one of the founding members of the Alberta RNA Research and Training Institute.

A professor in the Department of Chemistry & Biochemistry, Roussel is a dedicated and engaging teacher who combines extensive knowledge and understanding of his subject matter with innovative teaching methods. His research includes the development of methods for modeling biochemical systems and for the analysis of the resulting models, as well as applications of these methods. He is one of the founding members of the Alberta RNA Research and Training Institute (ARRTI). Roussel has served as associate dean in the School of Graduate Studies from 2022 to 2026, as Department Chair from 2013 to 2016 and as Biochemistry Coordinator from 1997 to 2004.

“It is a real privilege to serve my home Faculty as an associate dean. I am looking forward to working with the faculty and students who make our Faculty such a lively academic environment,” says Roussel.

Roussel will oversee graduate studies and the Calgary campus portfolios for the Faculty of Arts & Science.

“We are very fortunate to have such an experienced senior administrator, accomplished researcher and award-winning educator join our team. As we transition to a new model of graduate studies administration that includes more tailored services within the Faculty, Marc’s experience in the School of Graduate Studies will help us make the most of this opportunity,” says Dr. Matthew Letts, Dean of the Faculty of Arts & Science.

Marc Roussel earned his BA in Chemical Physics from Queen’s University in 1988. He graduated with an MSc in 1990 and a PhD in 1994 at the University of Toronto under the supervision of Simon J. Fraser, conducting his graduate work in the Chemical Physics Theory Group.

He joined ULethbridge in 1995 following an NSERC Postdoctoral Fellowship at McGill University. Roussel will serve as associate dean for a three-year term for the Faculty.
