Karen Reid appointed Chair of the University of Lethbridge Board of Governors

The University of Lethbridge is pleased to announce the appointment of alumna Karen Reid (BMgt ’86) as the new Chair of its Board of Governors. A seasoned financial executive and longtime community leader, Reid brings more than three decades of strategic business, governance and volunteer experience to the role.

Currently the Chief Financial Officer at Charlton & Hill Limited in Lethbridge, Reid served on the University’s Board of Governors from 2018 to 2024, including in the capacity as Vice-Chair. Throughout her time on the board, she contributed to the Audit, Human Resources and Compensation, Finance, and Executive Committees, as well as the Presidential Search Committee.

“The University of Lethbridge is a vital part of our city, our region and our province, and I am honoured to help guide its future in this capacity,” says Reid. “I look forward to working with my fellow board members, President Jayas, and the entire University community to support students, faculty and staff as we advance the University’s mission of teaching, research and community engagement.”

Reid has held senior leadership roles with Charlton & Hill since 2004, where she oversees finance, technology, human resources and strategic direction. In 2008, she was named a Fellow of the Certified Management Accountants, and in 2015, a Fellow of the Chartered Professional Accountants.

Reid is deeply engaged in the Lethbridge community. Beyond her current and previous contributions to the University, she has volunteered in leadership capacities with organizations such as the Lethbridge Squash Association and Big Brothers Big Sisters of Lethbridge and District, where she has chaired the annual Golf for Kids Sake fundraiser for more than two decades.

With this appointment, Reid becomes the 12th appointed Board Chair and the first female Board Chair in the University’s 58-year history.

The University of Lethbridge Board of Governors is responsible for the overall management, control and operation of the University. It ensures the institution’s financial sustainability and strategic direction while complying with the Post-Secondary Learning Act and other applicable legislation.
