In the new real, we are running with the robots. Industrial robots for seamlessly automated car manufacturing; medical robots for facilitating patient care in assisted living retirement communities; warrior robots engaged in materializing the imaginative game scenarios of cyber-warfare; toy robots that promise a happy first encounter between machines and the newest generation of humans; and, most of all, invisible robots circulating in the data clouds of social media as SocialBots.

Mauricio Soto-Rubio is an assistant professor of architecture at the Faculty of Environmental Design at the University of Calgary, where he teaches comprehensive building design studios, structures, and seminars related with lightweight and membrane structures. He is a founding partner of the Lightweight Structures Research Unit (LSRU) at the University of Calgary as well as the Studio for Lightweight Design, a multidisciplinary firm that specializes in the design, manufacturing and installation of lightweight, membrane and deployable structures.

Internationally renowned performance and installation artist James Luna (Puyukitchum/Luiseno) resides on the La Jolla Indian Reservation in North County San Diego, California. With over 30 years of exhibition and performance experience Luna has given voice to Native American cultural issues, pursued innovative and versatile media within his disciplines, and charted waters for other artists to follow.

Visiting artists Mel Braun, baritone, and Laura Loewen, piano, grace the University Recital Hall stage to perform in the Music at Noon series. Both are from the University of Manitoba's Desautels Faculty of Music.

From improvisation based on graphic scores to extended vocal techniques to ritualistic movement, this concert is both lighthearted and profound, and highlights the flexibility and potential of the human voice.
