BIOGRAPHY

Artist’s Statement

“My work takes one’s everyday experience as the subject and transforms it into simple forms to evoke personal responses while maintaining uncertainty and distanced readings to the subject. The juxtaposition of simple elements creates dialogues within and potentially generates personal attachment and implication. It is through the collection and the re-enactment of materials, spaces, observations and meanings that the complexity of one’s perception toward everyday life would be reminded and recognized.“

Janet Morton produces conceptually based work, using knitting and sewing in ways described as symbolic and subversive. She has created indoor and outdoor installations, including over-scaled items of clothing, 10,000 cloth leaves for trees, and ambitious collaborative works with other knitters. In 1999, for the last winter of the 20th century, the artist installed Cozy, a knitted cover for her house, over a year in the making and including hand-knit architectural details.

David Miller is the 2014 winner of the Duke and Duchess of York Prize in Photography.

“In an era of fleeting snapshots that appear and disappear in cyberspace, his works are testament to the power of photographs as objects – time bound memorials of elusive subjects. Brendan Healy, Artistic Director of Buddies in Bad Times Theatre, visits the University of Lethbridge to provide a lecture, make class visits, and provide a three day workshop to drama students.
