Modern Languages & Linguistics Film Series: Film 1: Tango

Tango (Spain & Argentina, Carlos Saura, 1998). After his wife leaves him, middle-aged theatre director Mario Suárez throws himself into making a film about tango. Gradually life and dance become blurred by his emotional entanglement with one of the dancers, and by his political criticism of Argentina’s regime. (In Spanish with English subtitles)

World Logic Day (Department of Philosophy)

It is that time of year again: World Logic Day! The Department of Philosophy will host this event on January 14th in honour of Alfred Tarski's birth and Kurt Godel's death, but the goals of world logic day are not to simply remember those two logicians; we celebrate world logic day to help spread interest in logic and the work of logicians in their own locales--in the geographic rather than category theoretic sense of that word. Ha!

Please join us on January 14th from 4 to 6 p.m in Anderson Hall 118
