It was a full house at the annual general meeting of the Education Undergraduate Society (EUS) in early February, due largely to a special presentation to Dr. Jane O'Dea, dean of the Faculty of Education.
O'Dea was the recipient of an honorary lifetime membership to the University of Lethbridge EUS.
She was chosen for the award due to her longstanding support and perennial enthusiasm for the society. In the last two years alone, O'Dea advocated on behalf of the society in garnering an office space adjoining a furnished lounge area where students can gather. She also ensured equipment and furnishings that were appropriate, plentiful and functional, all of this while overseeing the move of the Faculty of Education into the newly renovated Turcotte Hall building.
O'Dea is consistently willing to participate in EUS events by giving a speech or pep talk, and takes an avid interest in each student within the Faculty of Education.
"I was absolutely thrilled and delighted to receive this recognition from the EUS," says O'Dea. "A teacher's ultimate concern is teaching the students to learn, and sometimes when a teacher is in the administration side of things one can lose sight of the teacher's ultimate goal."
