Horns on home court in support of Watkins

The University of Lethbridge Pronghorns men’s basketball team hits the floor for its first non-conference game Friday night versus the Red Deer College Kings, but preparation for the new Canada West season will not be the team's only focus Friday, as the game will also be in support of teammate Brent Watkins.

Watkins, who had just completed his second season with the Pronghorns, was in a devastating car accident in July just outside Butte, Montana, while on his way back to Lethbridge from California. He has since been transferred back to California and has shown great signs of improvement but is still in hospital and going through rehabilitation.

The six-foot-10 inch post from Temple City, California had an outstanding season last year for the Horns, averaging 13.8 points per game and 7.5 rebounds.

Tip-off for Friday night’s game is scheduled for 7 p.m. and admission to the game is a $10 donation with proceeds going to Brent Watkins and family to help pay for medical bills. There will also be a silent auction.
