Elevator project continues

The continuing Elevator Renewal Project enters a new phase beginning Monday, June 7 with two new elevators taken out of service for upgrades.

The project involves replacing 1960s vintage switching systems that control elevator movements. The systems are being replaced with electronic circuit boards. Each elevator in University Hall as well as another in the University Centre for the Arts (UCA), will undergo work, with each elevator being out of service for 10 to 12 weeks. The replacement schedule is on a rotating basis.

On Monday, June 7, both the C block elevator and the UCA elevator that runs between levels six to nine, will be shut down for service.

Following is a tentative schedule for the summer project.

SOON TO BE COMPLETED:

- B Block elevator March 22 – June 4

NEXT UP FOR RENEWAL IN JUNE, 2010

- C Block elevator June 7 – Aug. 13

- The kitchen freight June 7 – Aug. 13

- UCA Hydraulic (only elevator that travels from level 6 to 9) June 7 – Aug. 13

COMING UP IN AUGUST AND BEYOND

- A Block elevator Aug. 13 – Oct. 22 (changed from Jan. 3 – Mar. 11, 2011)

- D Block elevator Oct. 22 – Dec. 31

- E Block elevator May 2 – Aug. 11, 2011 (changed from Aug. 13 – Oct. 22, 2010)

Please note that these dates may vary seven to 10 days pending any unforeseen circumstances. This planned service is necessary to avoid possible future emergency shutdowns.
