Celebrating Turcotte Hall

The University of Lethbridge is set to officially open Turcotte Hall, the new home of the Faculty of Education, Counselling Services and Physical Plant, with several events planned in October and November.

The grand opening ceremony will take place Friday, Oct. 17 at 2:30 p.m. with a Blackfoot blessing, speeches from various dignitaries and a performance by the U of L Youth Singers and Children's Choir. Artwork created specifically for the event by alumni Deliah Crosschild and Jonathan Legg, will be unveiled at an on-campus reception.

On Wednesday, Nov. 12, the Faculty of Education presents internationally recognized leadership educator, Dr. Kenneth Leithwood. Leithwood, a professor of Educational Leadership and Policy at the Ontario
Institute for Studies in Education and a fellow of the Royal Society of Canada, has published more than 80 refereed journal articles and more than three dozen books about school leadership, educational policy and organizational change. He will speak in W570 at 4:45 p.m.

Following his presentation there will be a wine and cheese reception.

Turcotte Hall East and West replaces the former home of the Faculty of Education in University Hall. Its amenities include larger classrooms equipped with Smart boards, and gathering places for undergraduate and graduate students.

Reflecting the technological advancements in teaching methodology currently taking place at the University, the building also contains a state-of-the-art computer lab, a videoconference suite and an extensive math/science laboratory.
