ART NOW - Adrian Cooke Speaks February 27th, 2017 at Noon in the Recital Hall

Adrian Cooke is an artist/sculptor with a record of both solo and group exhibitions across Canada. After graduating with honours from the Alberta College of Art in Calgary, Alberta, he pursued post-diploma studies at the New York Studio School in New York City and earned his BFA from the Alberta College of Art and Design in. He has also participated in summer sessions at the Banff Centre, Alberta and Emma Lake, Saskatchewan.

ART NOW - Riva Symko Speaks February 15th, 2017 at Noon in the Recital Hall

Riva Symko is an art historian, writer, curator, and (former) arts administrator living in Edmonton, Alberta.  Her most recent research has been focused the creative practice and theoretical discourse of appropriation in relation to its effects on some of our long-standing institutions, such as copyright – particularly in light of the proliferation of digital reproduction over the past thirty years. Her more general areas of expertise include critical theory, and modern and contemporary art/visual culture.

ART NOW - Megan Morman Speaks February 8th, 2017 at Noon in the Recital Hall

Megan Morman’s practice-based artistic research takes a playful approach to its examination of the socio-economic conditions of art objects and communities. Her recent work uses game-like images that demand the viewer’s interaction and present a challenge to vision as the sense associated with objectivity. In Art Now, she will discuss Assume the Position, a transdisciplinary body of work developed during the two years of her recent M.F.A. at the University of Lethbridge.

He’s also a weekly columnist at the Toronto Star, a senior editor and co-founder of Spacing magazine, and teaches at the University of Toronto. His latest book, is Frontier City: Toronto on the Verge of Greatness (released Feb 2017).
