This notice is from the archives of The Notice Board. Information contained in this notice was accurate at the time of publication but may no longer be so.

Complementary and alternative health care (CAHC) has become popular among people looking for options to treat their illness or improve their health. This course will examine the diverse array of practices that encompass CAHC, as well as the major concepts, approaches and theoretical foundations associated with the different types of CAHC. We will survey the historical, clinical, and scientific aspects of whole systems of practice (e.g. Naturopathic Medicine, Chinese Medicine), mind-body medicine (e.g. meditation), energetics medicine (e.g. homeopathy), biologically based therapies (e.g. botanicals), body-based treatments (e.g. chiropractic), and Aboriginal healing traditions. Students will also explore concepts such as disease, healing, and medicine within the context of CAHC, and how these concepts may apply to our current perceptions of health.
