Art NOW presents Nahid Pouzesh

March 27 | 12pm | University Recital Hall (W570)
Art NOW Presents: Nahid Pouzesh

Nahid Pouzesh is an Iranian artist and photographer, and a second-year MFA student in Fine Arts at the University of Lethbridge, Canada. Her early work focused on urban landscapes and the relationship between people and their environment, with a particular focus on her own identity within this context. Over time, her practice expanded to include mediums such as video, photobooks, and installation. In recent years, her work has centered on Iranian women, exploring their struggles and limitations in representation. Now, as a graduate student in Canada, her work engages with themes of body, identity, trauma, migration, and the challenges of adapting to a new environment.

Her practice focuses on trauma, memory, identity, and the female body, using photographic printing and image transfer processes as central methods in her work. Working with tactile and archival materials, she draws on both personal and historical sources to reflect on Iranian women’s lived experiences. Her work addresses themes of erasure, censorship, and gendered oppression, often taking a layered and immersive form that invites viewers to engage both physically and emotionally.
