Confluence is the result of Saskatchewan artist, Susan Shantz’, artistic and scientific exploration into the water sources that sustain our province: from the glaciers in the Rocky Mountains of Alberta water flows across the prairies in the South and North Saskatchewan Rivers, joining to create an enormous delta near the Manitoba border. Drawing on field trips to sites along the river, she uses a variety media (from textiles to videography) to consider the currents that connect us in this prairie water basin.

Susan Shantz teaches sculpture and multi-media studio art in the Department of Art and Art History at the University of Saskatchewan. She is a recipient of a College of Arts and Science Teaching Excellence Award and the Provost’s Project Grant for Innovative Practice in Collaborative Teaching and Learning. Her artworks explore embodied ways of knowing using a wide range of materials and processes. She has exhibited widely across Canada and internationally for the past thirty years and her artworks are in many public and private collections.
