Free Concert Warms the Heart

Although winter weather is definitely not dependable, Lethbridge audiences can depend on an entertaining evening of music during “Music for a Winter's Eve,” at the Public Library’s Theatre Gallery, 7:00 pm on February 6.

“The music being performed will warm the heart and refresh the soul,” says Dr. Brian Black, who organizes the concert, which features music students and faculty from the Dept. of Music at the U of L. “We’ve made the program as varied and entertaining as possible and we’ll share it in the intimate atmosphere of the Public Library's Theatre Gallery.”

Audiences can expect beloved pieces including the haunting Chopin Ballade in F minor; the flower duet from Delibes's Lakme, which became a hit in the 1990s as the theme music for British airways commercials; two arias from Puccini's La Bohème and a variety of music for flute, piano, trumpet, piano solo and guitar.

The annual concert is well attended and audiences look forward to its wide variety and accessibility.  “This is an opportunity to get a little exposure to classical music,” says Black.  “And people seem to enjoy it because it has been running for the past 15 years.”  He adds that “Its success is largely due to the passion of our performers in sharing their music with the community of Lethbridge.”

Doors open at the Public Library Theatre Gallery at 7 pm. Free admission.
