The Romantic Guitar

October 1 | 12:15 pm | University Recital Hall
Free admission, everyone welcome

Austin Culler (MMus'23) is a multi-faceted classical guitarist based out of Lethbridge, Alberta. He received an undergraduate degree in music theory from the University of British Columbia where he studied guitar with Alec Pearson and Daniel Bolshoy. After, he graduated from the University of Lethbridge with a Master's in Guitar Performance under the guidance of Iliana Matos. His graduate work focused on eighteenth-century compositional practices, particularly those of the partimento school in Italy.

Austin specializes in performing nineteenth-century music and classical improvisation, but also regularly appears as part of jazz, gospel, and funk groups as a session musician. He has given solo recitals with the Vancouver Guitar Society and chamber music concerts for various concert societies across Western Canada. He can always be spotted chatting about playing, teaching, and anything else music related.
